Habit. Erect, rhizomatous perennial shrub, 0.3–1 m high. Large stems prickles absent.
Branchlets. Branchlets ridged. Branchlet prickles absent. Branchlet hairs branched or simple or absent. Branchlet stellae absent. Branchlet simple hairs absent or erect, straight, not gland-tipped, 0.1–0.2 mm long. Branchlet Type 2 hairs absent.
Leaves. Leaves lanceolate or elliptical, entire. Leaves 2.5–10.5 cm long, 0.7–2.5 cm wide. Leaf apex obtuse or acute, base cuneate. Petioles 0.2–1 cm long, prickles absent.
Upper leaf surface. Upper leaf surface green. Upper leaf surface prickles absent. Upper leaf surface stellate hairs absent, protostellae absent, hair density absent from surface. Upper leaf surface simple hairs absent or erect, straight, very sparse or confined to major veins, not gland-tipped, 0.1–0.2 mm long. Upper leaf surface Type 2 hairs absent.
Lower leaf surface. Lower leaf surface green. Lower leaf surface prickles absent. Lower leaf surface stellate hair density absent. Lower leaf surface simple hairs absent or erect, straight, very sparse or confined to major veins, not gland-tipped, 0.1–0.2 mm long. Lower leaf surface branched/dendritic hairs present. Inflorescence. Inflorescence leaf-opposed, solitary or sessile (rachis very short or absent) or cymose (pseudo-racemose). Inflorescence rachis prickles absent. Inflorescence 1–8-flowered, with all flowers bisexual. Flowers 5-merous. Pedicels at anthesis 3–10 mm long, 0.5 mm thick at mid-point, prickles absent. Calyx tube at anthesis 1–2 mm long. Calyx lobes at anthesis deltate, 1.5–4 mm long. Calyx prickles at anthesis absent. Calyx stellae absent. Calyx Type 2 hairs absent. Corolla white, 5–8 mm long, deeply lobed. Anthers 3–4 mm long. Ovary glabrous. Functional style 5–6 mm long, glabrous.
Fruits. Fruiting calyx lobes less than half length of mature fruit, prickles absent. Mature fruits 1–2 per inflorescence, globular, 10–15 mm diameter, red or orange. Pedicels at fruiting stage 8–15 mm long, 0.5–1 mm thick at mid-point. Seeds white or pale yellow, 3–4 mm long.
Distribution and habitat. Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia. Qld: Moreton, Darling Downs, Wide Bay, Cook. NSW: North Coast, Central Coast, South Coast, Northern Tablelands, North-west Slopes, Central-west Slopes, South-west Slopes, North Western Plains, South Western Plains. Evergreen notophyll rainforest (no eucalypts), wet eucalypt forest with rainforest understorey, or rainforest margins, shrubby eucalypt woodland, remote from rainforest.
