Anastrepha aberrans Norrbom

Morphology

Body. Setae dark brown to black.

Head. Frons with paired brown mark on orbital plate, separate from mark on ocellar tubercle, or with brown band or mark including ocellar tubercle and extending to eye margin (lateral mark narrowly connected posteriorly to mark on ocellar tubercle). Occiput without brown marks. Frontal setae 2. Orbital setae 2. Ocellar seta weak, small or absent. Gena without brown spot. Facial carina in profile concave or flat on dorsal 2/3. Face without brown markings. Antenna not extended to ventral margin of face.

Thorax. Mesonotum length 4.1–5.3 mm (4.66, n=1). Postpronotal lobe and notopleuron entirely microtrichose. Scutum mostly or entirely microtrichose. Scutellum disc entirely microtrichose. Postpronotal, presutural supra-alar, dorsocentral, intra-alar and scutellar setae well developed, subequal to or longer than scutellum length; postpronotal seta on posterior half of postpronotal lobe. Acrostichal seta well developed. Basal scutellar seta strong, longer than scutellum. Katepisternal seta weak, no larger than postocellar seta. Mesonotum orange, or dark orange, or orange brown, or dark brown. Scutum presutural dorsocentral pale vitta present and connected anteriorly with pale area of postpronotal lobe; with 5 (medial, dorsocentral, and sublateral) pale postsutural vittae; pale medial vitta with posterior end broadly quadrate (extended laterally to dorsocentral seta); pale sublateral postsutural vitta extended posteriorly to intra-alar seta. Scutum posteriorly with brown or orange brown band or other transverse marking or larger posteromedial mark. Scutum posteriorly with dark band or broad marking on posterior margin, or with large U-shaped mark including posterior band and vittae; scutal posterior brown band not extended laterally to include intra-alar seta; without brown vittae, or with 2–3 pairs of brown vittae (submedial pair sometimes incomplete). Submedial scutal vittae separated from posteromedial brown mark. Dark brown scutal setulae between brown dorsocentral vitta and yellow sublateral vitta continuous, evenly distributed, without large non-setulose areas. Scutellum entirely yellow or with dark markings only on extreme base of disk, or with base of disk brown, extending to or beyond level of basal seta. Subscutellum yellow to red brown medially, dark brown laterally. Mediotergite entirely yellow to orange, or entirely brown to dark brown.

Wings. Wing length 11.5–14 mm (12.76, n=1). Wing pattern with basal half of S-band reduced to streak in cubital cells, costal band continuous to wing apex, proximal arm of V-band variable. C-band broadly extending to vein M in cell br along cell bm; covering base of cell r2+3; yellow or orange area posterior to pterostigma small or absent, not extending beyond cell r1 nor distally beyond level of basal third of pterostigma. Cell bm entirely hyaline or infuscated only along subapical fold. S-band base without extension in cell a1 to or almost to posterior margin. Cubital streak (isolated base of S-band) entirely covering cell bcu (sometimes faintly). Cubital streak (isolated base of S-band) bordering base of vein Cu1 but not extending to dm-cu, or extending, sometimes faintly, along both sides of vein Cu1 to dm-cu. Subapical hyaline area in radial cells distal to r-m S-band entirely covering cell r2+3 distal to r-m. S-band distal section without marginal hyaline band or spots in cell r2+3 or near apices of R2+3 or R4+5. S-band distally not extended to apex of vein M. V-band proximal arm as dark as apical half of S-band, or absent or diffuse and much paler than apical half of S-band (present but sometimes faint); extending less than 1/3 distance from apex of vein Cu1 to apex of vein A1+Cu2; not connected anteriorly to S-band, or connected anteriorly to S-band along vein R4+5 or in cell r2+3; not connected to S-band in cell dm. V-band distal arm absent. S-band distal section width ratio (width of S-band/width of cell r2+3, both measured perpendicular to costal margin at apex of vein R2+3) 1. Vein R2+3 without accessory vein. Vein R4+5 distal to crossvein r-m more or less evenly curved or not strongly bowed medially. Vein M ratio (distance from bm-cu to r-m/distance from bm-cu to dm-cu) 0.67–0.73 (0.70, n=1). Crossvein dm-cu orientation with anterior end more distal than posterior end.

Abdomen. Abdominal tergite without brown markings. Oviscape straight; length 8.75–10.5 mm (9.63, n=1); length ratio (oviscape length/mesonotum length) 1.85–2.25 (2.07, n=1). Eversible membrane with dorsobasal denticles with gap of membranous or no denticles separating apical row(s) from smaller basal denticles. Aculeus length 8–9.6 mm (8.81, n=1). Aculeus in ventral view more or less parallel-sided except extreme base. Aculeus tip length 0.47–0.55 mm (0.51, n=1); width 0.07–0.09 mm (0.08); gradually tapering, blade-like, with flattened cross-section; not flared outward at or proximal to base; without ridges or lobes; without elongate dorsolateral depressions apically; not serrate; serrated part 0 times length of tip. Spermathecae sclerotized; ovoid.
